Equipment Needs

Here's a list of the equipment needs I have that you can support: If you can support financially or have any of the following items, I'd appreciate it so much!

Here's a good way of looking at my upcoming costs for a 45 Day Bike Across America

$20 donation will feed me for 2 days
$50 donation will secure a hotel for me for 1 night
$150 equips my bicycle with safe lighting for riding at night. etc

  • A road/touring bike, with a fairly comfy seat.
  • Toe clips or clipless pedals
  • Front and rear racks with enough space to dodge heel/toe hit.
  • Small waterproof bags up front and large water proof rear bags.
  • Two water bottle holders & bottles (vertical and 45 degree on your frame)
  • A computer to monitor your progress (I mean a little thing that tracks wheel revolutions).
  • Front headlight with blink capability should be fine (I ride night and day in shit weather here in seattle and these are pretty good).
  • Powerful rear blinker (I'd advise running this more often than not, especially in territory unfamiliar to bikes, it tends to earn me more space on the road)
  • Small pump, spare inner tubes & patches, spoke wrench (perhaps extra spokes),tools to take everything apart and put it all back together, a little oil, spare brake cables & shifter cable (they are light and indispensable), and plan to buy an extra set of brake pads throughout the journey.
  • Solo tent
  • Sleeping bag - warm, but compact
  • Water proof pants
  • Waterproof jacket
  • 2 regular fleece type pants
  • 2 regular fleece type jacket or pull over
  • 3 pairs padded shorts
  • 3 warm tights
  • 3 long sleeve wicking shirts
  • Some sort of waterproofing system for your shoes/feet
  • Extra shoes
  • a couple pairs of gloves
  • 2 - Full face covering masks (this may be more used sleeping outside on a cold night than anything else).
  • 3 - warm socks
  • Knife
  • Light can opener
  • Water bladder (like a camelback)
  • Perhaps a very small and light cookset primarily for added heat on a shitty night, think tea. (I recommend buying prepared food the whole way, this will keep your weight down and also save you time)
  • Anti-friction gel
  • First aid kit (specifically athletic tape, gauze, neosporin, antiseptic of choice, tweezers)
  • A handful of plastic bags to keep everything from your stuff to your feet to your head dry in a pinch. (Huge emphasis on this item!)
